2016 can be considered the year of change.
It is natural that mankind changes from time to time its directions.
Latin America started with the end of the Kicheners, and Argentina leaded the row, Brazil followed, Bolivia, Venezuela are in their limits, in Europe, the UK said no the the club., and the message arrived in the United States.
The question is being answered. Who pays the bill ?
The ones who are paying the bill,for a long time, want their "money" back. Money in this case is power. Now the most powerful man in the world presented the bill. Is he going to charge ?
Definetelly the world is changing.
"Change is the law of life. Those who only look back to the past or to the present, will definetelly loose the future" John Kenedy.

2016 pode ser considerado o ano da mudança.
É natural que a humanidade mude de direção de tempos em tempos.
A América Latina começou com o fim dos Kicheners e a Argentina liderou a fila, o Brasil acompanhou, Bolívia e Venezuela estão nos seus limites, na Europa o Reino Unido deixou o clube e a mensagem chegou aos Estados Unidos.
A pergunta está sendo respondida. Quem paga a conta ?
Aqueles que estão pagando a conta há muito tempo, querem seu "dinheiro" de volta, e o dinheiro nesse caso é poder. Agora o homem mais poderoso do mundo mostrou a conta. Será que ele vai cobrar ?
Definitivamente o mundo está mudando.

O Aborto

Acende-se agora no Brasil o tema de apoio às mães cujos fetos desenvolvem microcefalia.
Há uma forte correlação entre o Zika Virus transmitido pelo mosquito Aedes aegypti e a má formação cefálica.
Muitas mulheres estão evitando engravidar nesse período em que a infestação do mosquito tornou-se uma epidemia, já mundial, tendo o Brasil adquirido status de líder em número de casos registrados.
Burocratas com ideias mirabolantes de soluções imediatas começam a defende o aborte desses fetos, ou assassinato, como queiram.
O fato é que o Planejamento Familiar não deve usar o aborto como ferramenta banal se pensarmos em termos médicos, mesmo porque as sequelas psicológicas de mulheres que são acometidas do aborto são enormes. Partem de depressão e podem chegar ao suicídio.
O aborto não deve ser praticado a menos que coloque a vida da mãe em risco, e ainda assim as mães que já entenderam a que tem a missão de desenvolver o amor, não praticam a operação, pois entendem ser abençoadas com a dedicação que terão pela frente caso a criança microcéfala sobreviva.
Ainda estamos longe de aprender o significado da dor, do sofrimento da dedicação incondicional à maternidade (ou paternidade), mas ao nos lançarmos nessa tarefa começamos a sentir uma inexplicável força agir em nós e transformar nossos sentimentos todos, em amor.
Não aborte ! Abrace. 

Poverty and Charity

Maybe some of the readers have never had contact with poverty. I mean real material poverty. Hunger, diseases, violence, sex insults, family disruptment, well, it is Christmas.

Some of you will donate, Red Cross, Rotary, Lions, Salvation Army...Excellent, you are helping fight temporaraly poverty, but how about charity ? 

What is charity all about if not giving what you don't have enough ?

How about spend some time with your family, or that friend of your who is in pain ?

Our misery most of time is not a matter of money, but spirituality. 

Try again, and again, go after those in pain, get involved. This is what really counts. Have a Christmas of peace. Get rid of masses, search for your deepest inner side, there are lots of things in there waiting for you.

When a Friend Dies

Most of us are not used to loose things. Small things that we have small values to them. We consider objects ours.
Once in a while we loose opportunities, most of the times we are not ready for them, but we still feel bad about it.
Then it comes to friends, we have an argument, a fight and stay long periods of time wasting time not getting together, latter on in our lives one of them dies.
That childhood fella's gone.
Difficult, sad, annoying, it is a mix of sentiments.
Your other friends are also sad, so what a difficult period of time.
We still have faith. We believe in another chance to be together again. Maybe another life, maybe reincarnation in the same group again. It is just a pitty your buddy is not around anymore, at least not is his body.

Beef Scandal

If you live in one of the countries on Earth, you have a great chance to have eaten JBS' beef, (or pork, chicken, hotdogs, etc),
More than 200,000 employees, they export to over 150 different countries, not bad at all !
From 2007 after buying Pilgrim's Pride and aquiring Bertim, another Braziliam Beef Company, it started to grow with a business hunger of a Giant. Margerine, yogurt, cheese, pastrami, you name it , JBS has them all.
In Brazil dozens of large abbatoirs were bought, killing competition, strugling cattle farmers.
Ok, but how do they get so much money to buy companies like that, besides their profits ?
The answer is a Public Brazilian Bank called BNDES, that loaned the beef company more than R$30 billion ( US$1.00 = R$2.95). We are talking US$10 billion.
Ok, what beef and politics have in common ?
In 2002, they donated R$200,000, in 2006 R$19.7 million, in 2010 it was R$83million and last year, the amount of R$391.8 million was donated to 16 different political parties in Brazil.
There is no free lunch, not here not anywhere, more is about to come.

Corruption

I could go on and just describe corruption as it is in the dictionary, but I want to talk about it in Brazil in the recent years.

We are all stoned with the volume of money drawn from the public treasure through it official bank - BNDES, in a Government owned bank, Banco do Brasil, in an Oil State Owned company called Petrobrás and the rules of such gangs.
Brazil is getting access to  great number of evidences of scandals that at the end will sum a few trillions of Reais (Brazilian Currency). As it happens its people get more and more convinced to go out and protest.
If we had a parliamentarian government Ms. Roussef would long have lost her job and would definitely lead the police to jail her and her predecessor  Lula da Silva.
The veins of corruption here is irrigated by building companies, banks, black market currency dealers, oil company suppliers as they formed a cartel of companies responsible for financing the 3 past Presidential elections.as past elections.
We will go again to the streets on April 12, this time in a bigger event as we went in March 15. We want all bandits in Jail, no matter who.

Five years ago I visited India in order to import cattle genetics from there into Brazil. I visited quite a few breeders and realized we were a bit ahead of them in cattle selection.
I went to the biggest Coop, in charge of processing some 11 million litres of Milk and found that the other way round would be a must, as Brazil could contribute with India in sending back the genes once came to Brasil.
The Indian government released a few years latter a sanitary protocol and a special permit. I contacted one of the A.I stations in Brazil and started to do the process. I am very glad to anounce that last week our clients in India got the first batch of Gyr Semen from Brazil to India. Very Proud. Very happy !

Brazilian Oil and Politics

In 1953, the Brazilian President Getulio Vargas pressed by a the local politicians founded the Brazilian Oil Company, or Petrobras.
The idea was to find all oil the country needed and become independent from imports.
A company that started drilling 2 thousand barrels a day would become a giant, 60 years later drilling over 2 million barrels a day.
Not bad if you thing on the private sector side, but through the years more and more anskilled people starte to grab pieces of it and we ended 2014 with the biggest corruption scandall ever.
A second level director gave back US$100 million to get his sentence reduced charged of corruption, others are being procecuted, but the feeling is that we will never get to the boss.
Oil barrel dropped to less the U$45,00, Saudi Arabia is not reduceing production, american shale oil is not being so desireable by now and the ethanol project of getting Brazilian Bio fuel as a world commodity sank.
What can we expect for the future ? More public money in a not so public company. Yes, we will pay this bill
Anyhow, their hands will remain dirty for a long time.

We cry

Today, it was about 7:00PM and I took my dog out for a walk, on my way back I heard someone crying a painful and sad cry. It was a man aged about 70 on his silk pajamas, sitting on a stair. I approached him and asked if he was ok, and as that pain was only his, he didn’t want to talk, so I left him.

So why do we suffer ?

Most of times it happens because we do not want to accept things as they come to teach us something, a lesson of some sort. To accept is not easy so we struggle the facts whatever they are.

Differences are difficult to accept. We do not accept the other’s opinion, action, or habits.

If we have not yet understood the meaning of the situation we will definitely suffer, most of the times unnecessarily.

Let me give you a tip, proud is a terrible thing. It is the opposite to humbleness.

No matter if you are rich or poor, if you act in a humble way understanding and listening with love to the other you will realize how small your problem is. On the other hand if you harm someone or live in your proud, you will suffer.

When talking to someone else, try to listen more than talk, get a smile on your face rather than a sour face. Don’t discuss things just to prove your point. You won’t be able to.

Give a hand, give two, give our arms. Get rid of your material thoughts. No one belongs to anyone. Nothing belongs to us or will remain in our hands for long.

Release people from their captivity and try to see if you are not the one who is holding the person to be truly free. Let go. Be free, be happy.

Birthday Thoughts

Not a symbolic date, turning 46 has shown me a click. One of those that you have in a life time, here it goes :
"The oposite of Happiness is not Sadness, but Insatisfaction."
Many of us when are satisfied with food, boose or sex, have a kind of lazy smile on our faces.
It desapears within a few hours after, and we are ready for more. More material pleasures.
But can we get enough ? When is plenty, enough,  ?
You wake up in the morning and your chest has a kind of deep hole on it. You feel lonelly even with lots of people aroud you. There is  something missing. One may think, I have had a great lobster with perfect wine, had sex with two sexiest girls but there is something missing.
You look at the mirror and you see "proud'. Here goes a tip : Break the bloody mirror down. Proudness is the fastest way to go sad, empty and fullish.
You will only find satisfaction when you can balance things in your life, half spiritual, half material. The maximum you can can get on material is 50%, , but spiritually we can go up to 100% and join God for good. Meanwhile, you can take time, God will give you as many lives a you need on Earth to learn about simplicity.
Dedicate some time for reading, for walking around, to play with dogs or children, to gardening and get you hands on soil. Talk to friends in person, disconnect from internet (after you read this...heheh).
Sex is great as a phisical activity, but try to make love, make love to the same person for a longer period of time. Get intimate. Share the little you have, not what you have in abundance. Look for those in deep needs, and talk to them, they will help you more than you to them.
You can get satisfaction, you can be happy.
I have learned it in these last 5 years, all of the above may not be suitable for all, it was just great for me, and I wanted to share it with you, as I am pretty happy with a piece of my birthday cake.
Have a happy new life.

THE CURE

No, it is not a rock band.

What does cure consist of ?  Many will say that is it a relation between the right drugs in the right time to the right person. Makes sense.

But how about spiritual healing ? Have you heard of it?

Well, close to Ribeirão Preto, in the countryside of the State of São Paulo, there is a city called Franca. There is where a man lived a long part of his life healing people. His name was Ismael Alonso y Alonso, a son of Spanish immigrants, who studied Medicine and Pharmacy, and got involved in politics. There was a difficulty in telling from Dr. Alonso, who was the Mayor of Franca from who was the "Doctor of the Poor".

After he passed away (I mean his body died) he continued to work healing people, but now using the body of João Berbel, a simple Mechanician  who could barely read and write.

Green Party and Farming

As a member of the green party in Brazil I feel a little upset.
Not with my Party, of course, but with the system as a whole.
They say we are one of the largest democracies in the World. Is that so ? I don't think so.
Our party is a small party, just about a 1/4 of a million members all over the country.
However we are about to lounch a candidate to dispute the next elections for the Presidency.
We want to discuss clean agriculture, social fare trade, technology to produce more and cheaper, biocontrol of plagues, GMOs, and so on.

In a few days we will hold the largest Agriculture Exhibit in the country here in my city (Ribeirao Preto), called Agrishow.
As a member of the party I contacted the Exhibition organizers in order to have our candidate present to let the farmes and press know about our thoughts.
The answer came in a rispid tone, saying that only the Governor, and elected Deputies will have the right to talk or even to step up the stand...and that it is being organised by the Governor's (another party) cabinet.
So, when elections come, they will say, the Green Party is against farmers ! The Green Party this, that... but they never give us a time to listen what we have to say. 

Terra para Quê ?

Continuam lá. Até quando essas famílias ficarão respirando poeira e se iludindo com "um pedaço de terra" quanto tempo é necessário para que os "idealizadores" dessa contraproducente ação resolvam falar a verdade ? A de que esse não é o caminho ?

Moro em Ribeirão Preto, outrora capital do Café, depois da Cerveja, depois da Cana e agora pretende se firmar como capital do Agronegócio.
Praticamente cercada por canaviais, a maior cidade de uma região do tamanho da Holanda, um município relativamente pequeno, em que mais de 50% de sua área é urbana, vivemos em uma ilha de prosperidade, devido à posição geográfica estratégica, universidades aqui instaladas, prestadores de serviço e comércio dos mais variados possíveis, que por acaso está instalada sobre um latossolo vermelho conhecido por terra roxa, onde em se plantando tudo dá.
Cerca de 40 dias atrás uma das terras da Usina Nova União, em Serrana, 30 km daqui foi novamente  invadida pelo Movimento Sem Terra para reivindicar aquelas terras para a reforma agrária, sendo essa a oitava tentativa após sete retomadas de posse. Somam-se ali mais de 300 famílias instaladas em barracos de lona, tendo a entrada da Usina bloqueada por uma barreira de pneus e paus.
Pretendem os invasores reverter a dívida do proprietário, e dos arrendatários, com o erário Paulista em terra para produção de alimentos, retirando dali uma atividade canavieira para a instalação da Agro-Floresta, que muito beneficiaria o meio ambiente, aplicando espécies vegetais como banana, abóboras, mandioca, milho, alem de reflorestar a área tomada hoje pelo canavial.
Algumas perguntas, entretanto, estão sem resposta.
1) Há plano de negócios para as novas atividades agrícolas ?
2) As pessoas envolvidas têm experiência em produção rural ?
3) Haverá treinamento para capacitação e mecanização ou uso de tecnologias?
4) As políticas de financiamento da agricultura familiar financiarão a empreitada ?
5) Qual o tamanho da área que caberá a cada família ?
Essas perguntas básicas tem por finalidade saber se essas famílias encontrarão o sonho da prosperidade hoje alimentado pela esperança ou o pesadelo da miséria , uma vez ali instaladas.
Produzir é tão importante como comercializar a produção, auferir lucro e remunerar a atividade, afinal o trabalho deve ser remunerado, dessa vez como proprietários e empreendedores.
Políticos se comprometem, quando defendem a reforma agrária, e também quando defendem a manutenção do estado de direito, enquanto isso,  essas famílias sonham e persistem.

His Holiness Pope Francesco

It is not easy not to get touched by this Argentinean Jesuit, who was chosen to be the leader of the Catholic Church.

He seems to be the answer for over a billion humans eager for love and justice.

He speaks to the hearts, has a good sense of humor and understands the value of things and people.

This past week he talked to pilgrims, to the cleric, to politicians. He spoke to the youth. Criticized (and condemned) drug dealers, embraced drug users.

Indeed a true Christian.

We will pray for you and hope this chain of good vibes transcend the chapels, the cathedrals and hit His Holiness’ heart as well as ours.

Sleeping with the Enemy

 

The recent history of Brazil will take another few decades to be understood.

Paulo Jabur's Picture of intelectuals talking to political prisioners in the mid 60's may be the seed of what was named Democracy. Militarys deposed arms and "gave back" the government to "elected" people.

Oscar Niemeyer famous architect of Brasilia, Darcy Ribeiro, famous writer and sociologist, Antônio Houais, linguistic... all of them had an idea of what a new order , a new country was going to be.

A new party was going to be formed MDB, Brazilian Democratic Movement, lounched its party.

Soon, fellowmen from the Comunist Party and others joinned and all they wanted was democracy.

Mr. José Sarney was took the presidency after his President Mr. Tancredo Neves died after elections and as vice-presidente, Sarney helped to structure his party PMDB.

Great names were once part of it and helped making it the biggest Political Party in Brazil, but they left to create their own parties such as PSDB and PT.

What was left of it was big enough to have structures, ministeries, positions in the government that makes them have today the Presidency of the Senate, the presidency of Congress and the vice-presidency of the country.

Not easy fot PT, nor for any other party.

Their roots are to deep into the system, in some cases persons and the party are so close together that they become one not very nice smelling mass.

Renan Calheiros, presidente of the Senate, for instance has been envolved in so many scandals that they were known as Renangates (4 big scandals), but he is still there.

José Sarney, after being presindet of Brazil, changed his State to be elected Senator and has also been presidente of the Senate, with lots of "secret acts"

There are many other names, like Orestes Quércia, (dead) and Antônio Fleury who made fortunes after being Governor of Stete of São Paulo, who should not have the rights of being elected again, but if they are still alive, they keep running and winning. Too bad, not too late.

Green Revolution

In the 1940's a Brazilian farmer produced food for 19 people, in the 70's for 73 people and at present 155 eat what one farmer produces.

Nos anos 40 um fazendeiro brasileiro produzia comida para 19 pessoas, nos anos 70 para 73 e hoje 155 pessoas comem o que produz um fazendeiro.

In 1980 Brazil imported beef from Chernobyl (can you believe that ?). In the last 15 years the exports of beef increased 731% and the pastures decreased 2%.

Em 1980 o Brasil chegou a importar carne de Chernobyl (dá para acreditar ?). Nos últimos 15 anos as exportações de carne aumentaram 731%, enquanto as pastagens diminuiram 2%.

Numbers are good enough but we must go into some history as well.
We must go back to Norman Borlaug, Nobel Prize of Peace, born in a Minessota, USA. This revolutionary man brought to the World hibryd seeds, resistent to fungs and so on. He used to say that "Brazil will have a great role in world hanger fight". Seems to prophetized well.

Números em si já são bons o suficiente, mas devemos entrar também na história.
Voltemos ao Norman Borlaug, Prêmio Nobel da Paz, nascido em Minessota, EUA. Esse homem revolucionário trouxe ao mundo sementes híbridas, resistentes a fungos e tal. Ele costumava dizer que "O Brasil terá um importante papel no combate à fome mundial". Parece ter profetizado corretamente.

Brazil went form a hill-bilies country into a great nation of Food Producers, due to the use of several technologies, from better seeeds and fertilizers to mechanical engeneering and animal genetics.

O Brasil foi de um país de jecas para uma grande nação de produtores de alimentos, devido ao uso de muitas tecnologias, de melhores sementes e fertilizantes à engenharia mecânica e genética animal.

Fernando Penteado Cardoso

 

Once I met Mr. Cardoso and this 94y.o. Professor gave me lectures of how one must select, from seeds to cattle, inspired on his friend, the best ever animal scientist Jan C. Bonsma (South African). Mr. Cardoso, or Dr. Fernando as he is known in Brazil was one of the first in the country to use fertilizers, at the time he began with ashes. He says, "you make no use of good genetics you you don't feed them properly"

 

Uma vez encontrei-me com o Dr. Fernando, e esse professor de 94 anos, me deu algumas palestras sobre  como se deve selecionar, desde sementes até gado, inspirado em seu amigo, o melhor Zootecnista que o mundo conheceu Jan C. Bonsma (Sul Africano). Sr. Cardoso, ou Dr. Fernando como é conhecido no Brasil, foi um dos primeiros. Diz ele, "você não faz uso de genética se não der a ela o cuidado necessário"

 

In short, agriculture is what keeps mankind in this planet and great men are born once in a while to revolutionize it.

 

Em resumo, agricultura é o que mantem a humanidade nesse planeta e grandes homens nascem de vez em quando para revolucioná-la.

Here in Brazil we produce lots of coffee, but also all sorts of food from the several thousands of farms throughout the country.
Simple people, farmers, sun burned rural faces..., all together to make Brazil one of the largest suppliers of food to the World.

Se você bebeu café hoje, ou durante a semana, alguma vez, agradeça ao homem do campo.
Aqui no Brasil nós produzimos muito café, mas tam´bém todo tipo de comida a partir de muitos milhares de fazendas espalhadas pelo País.
pessoas simples, fazendeiros, rostos rurais queimados pelo sol..., todos juntos para fazer o Brasil um dos maiores produtores  de comida para o Mundo.

Milk and Tits

Gir Cow (Zebu)

No matter how urban a society is, one can not produce artificial milk.
It comes from Tits, Cows, Buffaloes, Goats, Camels and Mares are the mais producers of milk and  so dairy comes along.
Milk price is reaching high levels in Brazil, normally at this time of the year, cows are still lactating well, so the amount of litres are ok, so what is going on ?
People may say inflation, others, business oportunities, but I recon it is the other side of the world that is pending.
Australia and New Zeland are two great producers in the Southern Pacific area, Canada and the US in the Northern Pacific area, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in the  Southern Atlantic area. All of us mentioned are consumers and some are exporters.
Then comes CHINA, the average of milk consumption over there as very insignificant "per capta", but now, it is growing

Lots of factors, but mainlly "western advertisement" is changing the feeding habits of the Chinese, the demand is growing so fast that the local government has many projects to increase local production.
